First-Team Squad

The Middlesbrough first-team squad for the 2024/25 season boasts 30 players at manager Michael Carrick’s disposal. The Championship club’s squad currently includes three goalkeepers, twelve defenders, eight midfielders and seven forwards.

Middlesbrough goalkeepers

Seny Dieng

Middlesbrough signed Seny Dieng for £2m after the goalkeeper helped QPR fight off relegation in the 2022/23 season. He left the capital side after seven years, becoming a regular in his final three seasons. He quickly established himself as the No. 1 at the Riverside Stadium under Michael Carrick.

Tom Glover

Middlesbrough brought goalkeeper Tom Glover to the club on a free transfer after he left Australian side Melbourne City. A product of Tottenham Hotspur’s academy, Glover moved back to his native Australia in 2019, where he won three A-League titles. Since returning to England, he proved to be a reliable understudy to Dieng.

Sol Brynn

Brynn joined the Boro academy aged nine, eventually making his first team debut in 2024. The keeper has spent time out on loan at Leyton Orient and Swindon Town.

Middlesbrough defenders

Tommy Smith

Middlesbrough brought Tommy Smith into the club after he departed from Stoke City. Upon Carrick’s arrival, the experienced centre-back became a permanent feature of the first-team which earned him a new deal at Boro. Smith’s 2023/24 campaign was cut short in October after an ankle injury ended his season.

Rav van den Berg

Another Carrick signing, Rav van den Berg came into the club in the build-up to the 2023/24 season. The promising defender represented the Netherlands at several youth levels and became a regular in Boro’s backline.

Matt Clarke

After impressive spells at Derby County and West Brom, Middlesbrough signed Matt Clarke from Premier League outfit Brighton. Clarke struggled with injuries throughout his first season at the club. However, he forced his way back into the first team at Boro in the 2023/24 season.

Dael Fry

A product of the Middlesbrough academy, Dael Fry became a regular member of the first team which continues to go strong. Since making his debut at the age of 17 in 2015, the defender made over 200 appearances for the club and once helped the side get promoted to the Premier League.

Luke Ayling

Luke Ayling signed for Middlesbrough in January as they looked to push into the playoffs. The defender joined Boro until the end of the 2023/24 season with Ayling boasting plenty of experience after making over 250 appearances for Leeds. Ayling has since signed for the Boro on a permanent following the end of his Leeds deal.

Anfernee Dijksteel

Middlesbrough added Anfernee Dijksteel to their ranks in August 2019 for £2 million. The Suriname international had been a regular starter at Boro for several years. However, under Carrick, Dijksteel struggles for game time.

Alex Bangura

Middlesbrough dipped into the Dutch market again under Carrick as they brought in Sierra Leone international Alex Bangura. However, since signing for Boro, the defender struggles for game time and has found few minutes on the pitch.

Darragh Lenihan

Darragh Lenihan joined Boro in June 2022 after his contract at Blackburn expired. The Irishman quickly became a vital player in the squad. However, an ankle injury prevented any more appearances since September 2023.

Lukas Engel

In his first season at Middlesbrough since signing in August 2023, Lukas Engel soon became a permanent fixture in the starting XI. After playing for several Danish clubs, the left-back quickly acclimatised to life in England.

Neto Borges

Michael Carrick signed Borges in the summer of 2024, in an attempt to beef up Boro’s defence options. The Brazilian impressed during his two-year spell in France and is expected to become a big part in the Teessider’s promotion push.

George McCormick

A graduate of the Boro academy, McCormick made his Middlesbrough debut against Leeds United in a 3-0 win backing August 2024. The youngster is highly thought of on Teesside and is expected to do big things in the game.

George Edmundson

Edmundson was signed on deadline day August 2024, joining Boro on a one-year loan. The 27-year-old is vastly experienced at Championship level having plied his trade for Ipswich Town and Derby County.

Middlesbrough midfielders

Daniel Barlaser

After helping Rotherham achieve an immediate return to the Championship, Middlesbrough snapped up Daniel Barlaser for £1.5 million in January 2023. The defensive-minded midfielder became a regular first-team player under Carrick.

Hayden Hackney

Another Middlesbrough academy product who became a regular. Hayden Hackney made his senior debut for Boro in January 2021 in the FA Cup. Now, under Carrick, the midfielder became a starter for Middlesbrough.

Riley McGree

Middlesbrough’s second native Australian in the side, Riley McGree was brought over to England permanently in 2022 after a successful loan spell at Birmingham City. Predominantly used on the left wing, McGree can also be used as a central or attacking midfielder.

Isaiah Jones

Middlesbrough signed Isaiah Jones from non-league side Tooting & Mitcham United FC alongside Sam Folarin in 2019. After progressing through the Boro academy, he made his debut in January 2021 in the FA Cup. Jones developed first-team player at Middlesbrough, mainly occupying the right wing.

Jonny Howson

The current Middlesbrough captain Jonny Howson joined the club from Norwich in July 2017 for £4.5 million upon their relegation from the Premier League. Since joining Boro, Howson made over 300 appearances.

Finn Azaz

One of Middlesbrough’s latest signings, Finn Azaz joined Boro in January 2024 after a successful loan spell to fellow Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle. Signing from Aston Villa, Azaz can be used centrally or out on the left wing.

Aidan Morris

American international Morris was signed by Middlesbrough for around £3m, in an attempt to bolster Boro’s midfield ranks.

Law McCabe

McCabe is a product of the Middlesbrough youth setup. The youngster made is senior Boro debut back in November 2023 in a 4-0 over Preston North End.

Middlesbrough forwards

Emmanuel Latte Lath

Middlesbrough acquired the services of Emmanuel Latte Lath in August 2023 for around €5 million. The striker had several loan spells until his move to Boro. In the 2022/23 season, he netted 16 goals for Swiss side St. Gallen. Under Carrick, Latte Lath continued this run of form.

Alex Gilbert

Middlesbrough brought Alex Gilbert into the club at the start of the 2023/24 season after the expiry of his contract at Brentford. Due to his young age, Boro still had to pay around £1 million in compensation to the Bees.

Ben Doak

Joining on loan from Premier League giants Liverpool, Doak arrived on Teesside to much fanfare. The Scottish international made his Reds debut under Jurgen Klopp after impressing within in the Liverpool youth ranks. Doak is expected to have a big impact at Boro as he looks to take his first steps into the professional game.

Marcus Forss

Marcus Forss joined Middlesbrough from Brentford for a fee believed to be around £3 million. Forss can play as a striker or on the right wing.

Delano Burgzorg

One of latest additions to the Boro frontline, Burgzorg joined the Teessiders following an impressive loan spell at Huddersfield.

Micah Hamilton

Signed from Premier League giants Manchester City, Hamilton arrived on Teesside having impressed within the City youth ranks. The youngster is expected to thrive at the Riverside Stadium.

Tommy Conway

Conway was Middlesbrough’s statement signing of the 2024 summer window. The Scotland international bagged himself a move to Teesside after impressing at fellow Championship outfit Bristol City.
