Middlesbrough took on West Bromwich Albion in a Championship clash on Tuesday evening.
Boro headed into the game looking to build on a positive result over the weekend.
After picking up just one win in their previous five Championship fixtures, the Teessiders needed three points when they faced off with Stoke City at the Riverside Stadium.
Summer signing Ben Doak opened the scoring before Hayden Hackney scored a stunning goal, seeing Middlesbrough beat Stoke 2-0 on Saturday.
That result saw the Teessiders climb up to eighth in the Championship table going into Tuesday’s meeting at The Hawthorns.
West Bromwich Albion headed into the game on the back of a defeat to Danny Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday but Michael Carrick will have been well aware of what a tough test his side faced away from home on Tuesday.
Boro had the better of the chances throughout the 90 and eventually took the lead when Riley McGree set up Hackney who placed his effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Here’s how the players rated-
Seny Dieng – 7
Struggled to command his box in the early stages of the game with some questionable clearances but was largely untested.
Luke Ayling – 7
Did not provide much going forward but that was to be expected with Doak in front of him. Ayling captained the side once again and led by example with his tireless work-rate.
Rav van den Berg – 7
Looked very comfortable on his first start back from injury, clearing his lines well and making some key interceptions and blocks.
George Edmundson – 7
Edmundson dominated the aerial battles on Tuesday evening and did not really do much wrong across the 90 minutes.
Neto Borges – 7
We are still yet to see the best of Borges going forward but he has certainly improved in the last two games, forming a solid partnership with Riley McGree down the left flank.
Aidan Morris – 6
Was not at his best in the first 45 and nearly gifted West Brom a chance but he made up for it and worked very hard in the centre of the pitch.
Hayden Hackney – 8.5
Hackney has really hit his stride in the last two fixtures, once again looking sharp going forward and scoring a lovely placed effort to put Boro in front.
Ben Doak – 8
Another lively showing from the Liverpool loanee who threatened every time he got the ball. His ability to take players on is second to none in this Boro side.
Finn Azaz – 8
Once again looked much better now he is back in his natural number 10 role. Tested West Brom’s goal several times and his first effort should have led to a goal but McGree wasted the rebound.
Riley McGree – 8
Performed his defensive duties well, helping out Neto Borges. But he did miss an absolute sitter in the first 45. Made up for it by setting up Hackney.
Emmanuel Latte Lath – 7
Did not see too much of the ball but forced an excellent save from the West Brom keeper, seeing his leaping header tipped wide. Worked hard off the ball but remains without a goal from open play this season.
