Middlesbrough announced the departure of Sol Brynn on a season-loan loan move to League One newcomers Leyton Orient yesterday afternoon.
The 22-year-old shot stopper spent the last campaign on loan with Swindon Town in League Two where he became an ever-present and was awarded with the club’s Player of the Season trophy after his heroics for the Robins.
Brynn produced the most saves in the fourth tier last season with 136 to his name as he played every single league match for Swindon, earning the praise of former boss Scott Lindsey who labelled him a ‘hero’ during his time there.
Winning both the club’s Player of the Month awards for August and September, the goalkeeper’s impact was clear to see from the start. Boro will be hoping he enjoys a similar fate with the O’s.

Brynn is yet to make a senior appearance for Middlesbrough having featured predominantly for the club’s Under-18s and Under-21s before starting his series of loan moves. Prior to his Swindon switch, he spent a very brief period with Darlington and then later Scottish Championship side Queen of the South for whom he would make 21 appearances.
This loan deal makes perfect sense for the young Englishman following the two new goalkeeper arrivals at Boro this summer in the form of Thomas Glover and Seny Dieng.
Will Brynn shine with the O’s?
After such a remarkable campaign, the last thing that Brynn would want to do is return to playing academy football or fill up a spot on the bench at the Riverside.
Stepping up from League Two to League One offers the Middlesbrough ace a chance to showcase his skills at a higher level, featuring for a side who are likely to face their fair share of shots this season as they learn to adapt to their new surroundings in the third tier.
Brynn will have big boots, or rather gloves, to fill for Orient following the departure of last season’s number one Lawrence Vigouroux who signed for Premier League outfit Burnley on a free transfer.
It goes without saying that this is a huge opportunity for him to make his mark.
