Former Middlesbrough centre-back David Wheater has predicted the result of the Euro 2024 final between England and Spain.

Two former Middlesbrough stars could make England history on July 14th at Euro 2024.

Boro legend Gareth Southgate is set to manage the Three Lions in only their second-ever European Championship final.

Ex-striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is also part of the England setup in Germany and has been working closely with the national team’s centre-forward.

England will meet Spain in the final of Euro 2024 on Sunday, with the match set to get underway at 8pm BST.

To reach the final, Southgate’s side knocked off Slovakia, Switzerland, and the Netherlands in the knockout phase.

David Wheater makes England vs Spain prediction

Spain had a tougher road to the final, facing Georgia, Germany, and France after making it out of their group.

La Roja are expected to prove a stern test for the Three Lions, especially if Lamine Yamal is able to replicate his display versus France.

Spain also have more of an international pedigree than England, winning the European Championship twice in the 21st century.

However, speaking to BBC Tees Sport recently, former Middlesbrough defender David Wheater has backed England to come out on top this weekend.

He said: “It’s going to be a tough one. I think we just have to be confident. There’s no reason not to be confident.

“I don’t think there’s anyone we should be scared of now. On paper, we’ve got the best team.

“Score prediction, let’s go 3-0 England, let’s go all out attack.”

Middlesbrough’s history with England

As well as Southgate and Hasselbaink playing a role in Euro 2024, Middlesbrough have had several more former stars represent the national team over the years.

The aforementioned Wheater earned a call-up to the senior side but was never handed a cap.

Stewart Downing, one of the club’s best academy graduates, earned a total of 35 caps for England.

Elsewhere, the likes of Jonathan Woodgate, Brian Clough, Ugo Ehiogu, and Middlesbrough’s all-time top scorer George Camsel have all featured for their country.
