A former Middlesbrough star who helped the club win promotion to the Premier League has now joined a League Two club.
Middlesbrough are gearing up for the 2024/25 Championship season, which kicks off on August 10th.
Boro host Luke Williams’ Swansea City at the Riverside Stadium in their first game of the campaign and will be looking to make a positive start to boost their promotion chances.
Michael Carrick is the man tasked with guiding Steve Gibson’s club back to the Premier League for the first time in seven years.
Since Carrick’s arrival, Boro have finished fourth and eighth in the Championship but there is optimism that a return to the top flight could finally be on the cards this year.
The last manager to win Middlesbrough promotion to the Premier League was Aitor Karanka in 2015/16.
The Teessiders finished second in the Championship that term behind Sean Dyche’s Burnley.
Former Middlesbrough star Albert Adomah joins Walsall
One of the key players from that promotion-winning season was Albert Adomah.
Adomah joined Boro in 2013 from Bristol City and was a key figure under Karanka, scoring eight and assisting eight in 2015/16.
Despite his role in getting Middlesbrough up, Adomah was sold to Aston Villa in the summer of 2016.
He most recently played for Queens Park Rangers but was released on July 1st when his contract expired.
Now, on July 23rd, League Two side Walsall have confirmed the signing of Adomah on a free transfer.
Middlesbrough could have used Albert Adomah this season
Adomah’s prime years may be behind him but Middlesbrough could do with reinforcements on the right wing going in 2024/25.
Carrick confirmed recently that Marcus Forss is still recovering from an injury he picked up last season and is expected to miss Middlesbrough’s Championship opener versus Swansea.
In turn, Isaiah Jones is currently the North East outfit’s only natural senior right-wing option.
Academy starlet Sonny Finch played 45 minutes on that flank in pre-season last week and may be called on to cover for Forss in the early stages of the upcoming season.
