Middlesbrough have announced a double incoming as Sam Silvera and Tom Glover have joined the Teeside club.

Boro have announced two transfer deals as they complete a double swoop down under. Two Australians have been brought in from the A-League.

Firstly, mesmerising winger Silvera turned down four other offers before signing a three-year deal with Michael Carrick’s side.

Joining him is Glover, who is a goalkeeper, also on a three-year contract. The duo are Boro’s third and fourth signings of the summer, following the arrivals of Alex Gilbert and Ran van den Berg.

Middlesbrough were believed to be one of five clubs to offer fees to Central Coast Mariners for Silvera. While undisclosed, it is understood he has cost the club £500k.

The 22-year-old opted to join Boro ahead of the other sides, who include Stoke City and Plymouth. Silvera is an exciting signing. He is a risk but, having scouted him extensively, Boro believe they have their man.

Glover came through the Tottenham academy and has arrived at Boro on a free transfer after his contract at Melbourne City expired at the end of the last campaign.

What will the signings bring to Teeside?

The signing of both adds some depth at the very least to the Boro squad. But Silvera has the potential to be much more.

He was the key player last season for the Mariners as they won the A-League Championship. He banged in eight goals along with adding six assists during the season and scored in the Grand Final.

Silvera is right-footed and loves to cut inside onto it. With a deadly shot, and an eye for goal, he is one to watch.

Glover will face a fight for game time at Boro, becoming the third goalkeeper in the squad. He will have to prove he is more valuable than Liam Roberts and Sol Brynn initially. However, Boro are also said to be in talks to sign QPR’s Seny Dieng.
