Middlesbrough are weighing up a permanent move for Wolves’ Ryan Giles who spent last season at the Riverside on-loan.

Giles had an extremely strong season at Middlesbrough featuring for Michael Carrick’s side 47 times and claiming 11 assists which was also the joint height amount in the league.

The 23-year-old impressed the Teeside club so much that they are keen to see him return. Tom Collomosse of the Daily Mail furthered speculation but suggesting the left-back could be available for around £5million.

Giles is said to be out-of-favour at the Molineux despite his impressive loan performances over the last year with Carrick looking to capitalise on this.

The Wolves defender was a real fan-favourite on Teeside and despite his heavy transfer fee, many fans would likely revel his return.

Boro face competition for Giles

According to Collomosse, Boro will be facing competition for Giles, from Premier League new-boys Luton Town.

Being a league up likely gives Luton the advantage, with deeper pockets and the chance to play in England’s top division likely appealing.

Carrick however will be hopeful that the existing relationship with Giles will put his Boro side in good stead to secure the signing.

Boro despite not being promoted could appeal to Giles more, given the high ambitions of Carrick and the likely scenario which sees Luton relegated this season back to the Championship.

Giles was clearly enamoured by his time at Boro, receiving huge love from the fans and establishing himself as one of his bosses main men.

The system in place lent itself well to his talents and the best scenario could be that he remains.
