Who is Morgan Rogers?

Despite not being an unknown quantity, as he has impressed previously at Lincoln and Blackpool, it is useful to run through his career and qualities.

Primarily a winger, Rogers is technical and a dangerous dribbler. He is capable on either foot and can contribute off the ball too.

Morgan was signed by Manchester City from West Brom in 2019 for £3.7m. Despite the hefty fee, he never made an appearance for the club’s senior team. He had, however, made 25 U21 appearances, scoring six goals along with four assists.

City then loaned Rogers to Lincoln in January 2021, where he looked comfortable and had lots of first team football. He scored six goals and provided four assists in 28 games for the club.

Following his time at Lincoln, another loan awaited him; this time to Bournemouth in August 2021. Rogers struggled, only playing 390 minutes all season and scoring a single goal.

Rogers was loaned again in January 2023 to Blackpool. Here he featured a lot more and put in solid performances, despite his numbers of one goal and two assists potentially reflecting badly to outside observers.

Now it appears City are set to cut ties completely with the player Mick McCarthy passionately called, “Terrific” in March.

Given the wonders Carrick has worked with some Boro players since taking charge, it is exciting to see what he can do with Rogers.
