Middlesbrough have been blessed with some truly talent midfielders during their 148-year history.

Paul Merson, Bryan Robson and Gaizka Mendieta are just some of the names that come to mind when reflecting on past great Boro midfielders.

The latest name looking to add himself to that iconic list is former Newcastle and Rotherham midfielder Dan Barlaser.

Dan Barlaser age and birthplace

Dan Barlaser is currently 27-years-old at the time of writing, having been born on January 18, 1997.

He was born in Gateshead, England but is also of Turkish descent through his father. Barlaser played for the Turkey national team at both under-16 and under-17 level, before representing England under 18’s.

Brarlaser stands at 6ft tall (1.84m), which allows him to use his tall frame in midfield battles.

Dan Barlaser career so far

Growing up in the north-east, Barlaser was signed by Newcastle United’s academy at the age of nine, eventually working his way up to the first-team.

Rafa Benitez would hand the midfielder his senior debut in the FA Cup against Birmingham City back in 2017. He would then go out on a series of loans to the likes of Crewe and Accrington before landing at Rotherham, eventually signing permanently for the Yorkshire outfit in 2020.

Barlaser would go on to play a vital part in Rotherham’s promotion to the Championship in 21/22, scoring ten goals from midfield as The Millers finished second.

The midfielder would carry his rich reign of form into the Championship eventually being snapped up by Middlesbrough in January 2023.

Dan Barlaser Middlesbrough transfer

Middlesbrough signed Barlaser from Rotherham United in January 2023, for a free estimated to be in the region of £900,000.

The midfielder put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal following three successful years at the Yorkshire outfit.

According to Capology, Barlaser reportedly earns £6,000 p/w, which equates to roughly £312,000 per year.

The midfielder’s current deal is set to expire June 30, 2026.
