Former Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom could make a dramatic return to English football before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Akpom left Middlesbrough to join Ajax last summer, after a blistering 2022/23 season in the Championship.

The former Arsenal man netted 28 goals in 40 Championship outings for Boro, scooping a clutch of individual awards including the Golden Boot, Middlesbrough’s Player of the Season and the Championship Player of the Season award too.

He sealed an exciting move to Ajax and despite scoring five goals in 13 Eredivisie appearances so far this season, his spell in the Netherlands hasn’t been considered a success.

Akpom has failed to hold down a starting spot and has now missed the last two games for his side, with Fabrizio Romano now revealing that Nottingham Forest are looking at a potential last-minute swoop for the 28-year-old:

A Premier League awaits former Middlesbrough star Chuba Akpom

Akpom showed a lot of quality for Michael Carrick‘s side last season, and Boro fans will be disappointed to see that his move to Ajax isn’t quite panning out.

But he still boasts a good scoring record and so he could be a very shrewd swoop for Nottingham Forest as they look to pull away from the relegation zone.

Akpom is a natural finisher who can nick goals from anywhere inside the box, but he can also create goals and bring other players into attacking plays.

Middlesbrough have failed to replace him and they could really do with a player like him in their ranks for this second half of the season.

But it’s been a very quiet deadline day for Boro, with the 11pm cut-off deadline now fast approaching.

Boro are back in action against neighbours Sunderland this weekend; the Black Cats head to the Riverside on Sunday, with kick off at 12pm.

A win for Middlesbrough would see them go level on points with 7th place Sunderland.
