A Hull City chief has delivered a transfer update on Ryan Giles following reports he could return to Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough moved swiftly to get the bulk of their 2024 summer transfer business done early.
Luke Ayling, Delano Burgzorg, and Aidan Morris all arrived at the Riverside Stadium prior to Boro’s pre-season getting underway.
16-year-old starlet Harley Hunt also joined the club and is expected to link up with the academy this season.
In terms of further additions to the first-team squad, the main name being linked is Ryan Giles.
Giles spent 2022/23 on loan with Middlesbrough, assisting 11 as the club reached the Championship play-offs.
The left-back joined Luton Town after Boro failed to win promotion and he most recently signed for Hull City.

Hull chief expects Ryan Giles to stay at club
Hull signed Giles permanently from Luton earlier this summer. Despite this, he continued to be linked with a return to the North East.
At the beginning of July, it was claimed that Middlesbrough were preparing to make a bid for the defender.
Hull City owner Acun Ilicali then revealed the club’s stance on Giles moving to Middlesbrough, stating they would let the Englishman join Boro if he wanted to.
Now though, the Tigers’ vice-chairman, Tan Kesler, has insisted he does not expect Giles to join Middlesbrough this summer, as per the Northern Echo.
He said: “No. Why? I can tell you. I don’t expect to see him leaving us or want to leave us.
“If he’s going to leave, that needs to be significant persuasion for us. But Acun and I are very confident he should stay.
“In this case, we will make sure he feels welcome and comfortable. If he wants to leave, we don’t foresee it but I cannot guarantee it, it would be very hypocritical of me.”

Should Middlesbrough sign another left-back
Giles would be a great addition to Michael Carrick’s squad heading into 2024/25.
He is a proven Championship talent and his previous stint at Boro means the settling-in period would be much shorter.
However, if Hull do end up keeping hold of Giles this summer, Middlesbrough do not need to sign another left-back.
Lukas Engel and Alex Bangura were signed last year as replacements for Giles and performed admirably.
The latter’s season was derailed by injury but he showed patches of his true potential when fit.
As for Engel, he was Boro’s primary left-back in 2023/24 and while not at the level of Giles, still scored two and assisted four in 35 league games.
