Middlesbrough have been handed a glimmer of hope they can still complete a deal for one of their transfer targets this summer.
Middlesbrough have quietly been going about their 2024 summer transfer business with great success so far.
Boro kicked off their incomings by signing Luke Ayling on a free transfer from Leeds United after the right-back produced eight assists in just 19 games while on loan at the club last season.
The North East outfit then moved to strengthen their forward line, with Delano Burgzorg arriving from Mainz 05.
Burgzorg scored seven goals in 33 Championship games while on loan at a now-relegated Huddersfield Town and is expected to bring quality and versatility to Michael Carrick’s attack.
And while a deal is yet to be confirmed by the club, Aidan Morris has already explained how Carrick convinced him to join Middlesbrough.
The striker position remains a priority for Middlesbrough as the summer window rolls on but so far, it has been largely good news coming out of Teesside.

Middlesbrough could still sign Ryan Giles this summer
Boro did look to have been handed one blow on the transfer front this week, however, in the form of Ryan Giles.
After after impressive loan spell on Teesside in 2022/23, Middlesbrough looked to have rekindled their interest in the full-back earlier this month when it was reported Boro were continuing to monitor Giles.
However, Middlesbrough looked to have missed out on signing the 24-year-old when Hull City confirmed they had triggered an option to buy Giles from Luton Town on a permanent basis.
This appeared to be the end of Boro’s pursuit of the left-back but a fresh report from the Northern Echo suggests that may not be the case, with the club said to be still keeping tabs on the player.
The outlet claims that new manager Tim Walter, who replaced Liam Rosenior – the head coach when the Tigers initially signed Giles – still has to decide if the player is going to be a key figure for the Yorkshire outfit next term.
If Walter decides against using Giles, and with Hull having to tread carefully to ensure they comply with financial fair play regulations, Boro would look to make a move if a deal can be struck.
A potential stumbling block for the Steve Gibson-owned team is they would prefer to sign Giles on an initial loan, with the option of a permanent transfer down the line.

What Ryan Giles can bring to Middlesbrough
Giles began his career with Wolverhampton Wanderers and was loaned out several times while signed to the Midlands outfit.
The 24-year-old previously spent time on loan at Cardiff City, where he was dubbed ‘exciting’ by then-manager, Mick McCarthy, as per Wales Online.
He said: “Ryan is exciting and the crosses he puts in, whether it’s on the right, putting them in left-footed, corners, free-kicks, it’s a real weapon we can utilise.”
Giles’ ability to whip in a cross was on full display during his previous time at the Riverside, providing 11 assists in 45 league games.
A full-back with such an attacking threat would be a major boost for Carrick, who likes his defenders to push high up the pitch when his side have possession.
Lukas Engel and Alex Bangura are Middlesbrough’s current left-backs and while they have shown glimpses of attacking prowess, it is clear Giles is above them in this regard.
Engel scored two and provided four assists in the Championship last term, while Bangura scored two and assisted one.
