Middlesbrough team news
Middlesbrough are still missing several players through injury.
Carrick confirmed that Jonny Howson is close to returning, however, Saturday’s win against Stoke proved too soon for the midfielder.
Dael Fry (pelvis), Darragh Lenihan (ankle), Tommy Smith, Alex Bangura (both Achilles), and Marcus Forss (hamstring), are also missing.
Rav van den Berg returned from injury as a late second-half substitute at the weekend but those in attendance at the Riverside Stadium were surprised to see Tommy Conway and Matt Clarke missing from the squad.
Despite their absence, Carrick told Teesside Live that he is hopeful the pair can return tonight.

Forward Daryl Dike is out with an Achilles injury and is unlikely to return before the end of October.
Ex-Boro man Alex Mowatt could also be reintroduced to the starting XI after being brought on in the second half of their surprise defeat against Wednesday.
Carlos Corberan has named an unchanged back four for the past six games and is likely to continue doing so.
West Brom vs Middlesbrough predictions
West Brom are unbeaten at home this season and barring their recent weekend blip, have been flying in the Championship.
Boro meanwhile have lost two of their three away games, but with the chance to move into the play-off places at stake, confidence will be high amongst the Teessiders.
This will be Middlesbrough’s biggest game of the season and they will have to be at their very best to return to the Riverside Stadium with three points.
