George Edmundson joined Middlesbrough from Ipswich Town on deadline day and has since made his debut for Michael Carrick’s side.
Boro were in desperate need of defensive reinforcements going into the final few weeks of the summer transfer window.
Dael Fry and Darragh Lenihan were injured for Middlesbrough’s recent meeting with Preston North End and are still yet to make an appearance in 2024/25.
And after Rav van den Berg picked up a knock during the 1-0 defeat to Derby County last month, Matt Clarke was left as the Teessiders’ only fit senior centre-back.
After the Dutchman’s injury, Middlesbrough were in talks to sign a centre-back during the final week of the window.
A few names were linked but a six-month loan deal for Ipswich Town stopper Geroge Edmundson was eventually agreed on August 30th.
The centre-back is settling in nicely, with Edmundson becoming friends with another recent Middlesbrough addition.

George Edmundson praises Middlesbrough coach Jonathan Woodgate
After missing out against Cardiff City prior to the international break, Edmundson was handed his Boro debut this past weekend.
Middlesbrough drew 1-1 with Preston North End at the Riverside Stadium, with the Ipswich loanee partnering Clarke at the back.
Despite the North East outfit conceding, Edmundson was largely faultless throughout the 90 minutes and looks to be the latest bit of shrewd business completed by Kieran Scott.
Following his Middlesbrough debut, the 27-year-old has revealed how former player-turned-coach, Jonathan Woodgate, has been helping him since his arrival up north, as per Teesside Live.
He said: “He is up there with the best. He was a phenomenal defender, obviously he is in my position and he has worked with us back lads.
“When he speaks, you just listen straight away. He has that aura, that authority. As soon as he speaks to anybody you listen because of what he’s achieved in the game and playing for the biggest club in the world.
“You would be stupid if you didn’t listen to him when he’s talking – you would just be a fool. So I am probably going to do his head in asking loads of questions. I will just try and learn and try and improve as best I can.”

Should Middlesbrough sign George Edmundson from Ipswich Town permanently
Boro have the stopper on their books until the January transfer window when he is expected to return to Portman Road.
However, Edmundson is out of contract with Ipswich at the end of the 2024/25 season and could be available for a cut-price fee this winter as a result.
Scott has hinted at a long-term Middlesbrough future for Edmundson already, which makes sense given the Boro chief has been keen to only loan players who the club have a good chance of signing permanently.
But whether or not the Teessiders decide to pursue a permanent move for the defender will likely depend on several factors.
When everyone is fit, Carrick has four senior centre-backs plus academy duo Harley Hunt and George McCormick competing for two positions.
That would leave little room for Edmundson unless he can prove he is a better option than Fry or Lenihan.
Alternatively, if the aforementioned duo are still struggling with injury woes come the back end of 2024, signing Edmundson permanently would make sense if he can repeat the performance he managed against Preston over the coming months.
