Middlesbrough host Bristol City in a Championship clash on Saturday and Michael Carrick has spoken to the media ahead of the game.

Michael Carrick is looking to end his rather unwanted record against the Robins when they travel to the Riverside Stadium this weekend.

Bristol City did the double over Middlesbrough in the 2023/24 season, with the North East outfit having picked up just one win in their last seven Championship fixtures against them.

Prior to the international break, the Reds earned six points from a possible nine, moving them up to ninth in the Championship table.

Boro were in the play-off places for a brief time but a 2-1 defeat to Watford allowed the Hornets to climb into the top-six over the Teessiders.

As a result, three points is a must this weekend, especially as Bristol have won just two in nine so far this term.

Michael Carrick provides Middlesbrough injury update

Middlesbrough are predicted to beat Bristol City this weekend but Carrick should be well aware that is easier said than done.

Ahead of the game, the Boro manager spoke to the media on Thursday and provided an injury update on his side.

Matt Clarke returned to the bench in the defeat to Watford earlier this month but Tommy Conway was out due to injury.

Now, speaking to the media on Thursday, Carrick has provided a fresh update on the Scottish star.

He said: “Ye we will have to see on Tommy.

“I mean obviously he didn’t go away with Scotland and he’s missed a period of time, so we’ll have to see, couple of days left if we can get him back around it and involved on Saturday then great.”

Michael Carrick may have new role for Tommy Conway on Middlesbrough return

Conway made the move to Teesside in August, joining from Bristol City for a fee of £4.5m.

Prior to his recent injury, the striker had largely played in a number 10 role behind Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Carrick enjoyed a lot of success with Chuba Akpom in this role in the 2022/23 season when Middlesbrough finished fourth.

Conway has looked dangerous when playing in this less natural position but the form of Latte Lath may lead to the Middlesbrough boss dropping the Ivorian for the 22-year-old.

Latte Lath is yet to score an open play goal this term and with Middlesbrough’s shot conversation rate among the worse in the Championship, it could be time for a change up front when Conway is back fully fit.
