Rav van den Berg must heed his own transfer advice to brother Sepp when considering Middlesbrough future

Middlesbrough have received plenty of transfer interest in Rav van den Berg since his arrival at the club.

Rav van den Berg has arguably been the best signing of the Michael Carrick era at Middlesbrough.

Boro signed the Dutchman from PEC Zwolle on July 6th, 2023, for an undisclosed fee.

Despite only being 18 years of age when he arrived at the Riverside Stadium, the centre-back became an instant key figure for Middlesbrough.

After excelling out of position at full-back and forming a great partnership with Matt Clarke in the middle of a back four, Van den Berg won Middlesbrough Player of the Year in his debut campaign.

It is clear that the now 20-year-old has a big future in the game, with one pundit previously backing Van den Berg to play Champions League football.

His prolific start to life on Teesside has, however, already attracted unwanted transfer interest from a few clubs.

Middlesbrough star Rav van den Berg transfer advice to brother Sepp

Fulham wanted to sign Van den Berg during the 2024 summer transfer window but Middlesbrough turned a move down.

Earlier in the window, Belgian outfit R.S.C. Anderlecht wanted to sign Van den Berg but deemed him too expensive.

He is not the only member of the Van den Berg family who received transfer interest over the summer, however, with his brother Sepp leaving Liverpool to join Brentford.

Now, in an interview with Mee Met Oranje via One Football, Rav has now revealed the transfer advice he gave to Sepp when the latter was considering his future at Liverpool.

He said: “I told him playing time was the most important thing and he thought the same.”

Rav van den Berg must heed own transfer advice when considering Middlesbrough future

Despite staying in the North East this summer, Rav is bound to attract more interest in the upcoming transfer windows.

Middlesbrough wanted around £20-£25m for Emmanuel Latte Lath this summer and given Van den Berg is of similar quality and has more potential, he would likely fetch a similar fee for Boro.

However, Rav should follow his own transfer advice he sent to Sepp when deciding whether or not to leave Teesside.

The stopper is one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit under Carrick and while a Premier League club may well come in for him again, he may not get anywhere close to the minutes he is currently afforded at Middlesbrough.

As a result, while he is no doubt destined for the top flight, it may be best if Van den Berg stays at Boro for a few more years to guarantee himself plenty of minutes at this crucial stage of his development.
