Middlesbrough tried and failed to sign several players during the 2024 summer transfer window.
Boro had a largely successful summer window with nine new faces brought through the door at the Riverside Stadium.
Each outfield position has been strengthened for Michael Carrick and Middlesbrough now have one of the strongest squads in the Championship on paper.
However, it was not all plain sailing for Head of Football Kieran Scott and Carrick during the summer, with several targets slipping through the net.
Middlesbrough were interested in Tom Cannon of Leicester City but he has since joined Championship rivals Stoke City on loan.
Boro were linked with Will Lankshear early in the window as well, but the striker has since decided to remain at Tottenham Hotspur.
Elsewhere, the Teessiders tried and failed to bring a former player back to the North East for much of the summer.

Ryan Giles will have Middlesbrough transfer regret
Middlesbrough were linked with Ryan Giles for much of the summer amid uncertainty around his Hull City future.
After leaving Boro following the expiration of his loan deal at the end of 2022/23, the left-back, who is currently valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, has struggled to recapture his top form.
Giles endured a difficult stint with Luton Town in the Premier League before being loaned to Hull in the second half of 2023/24.
The Tigers then signed the defender on a permanent transfer over the summer but he was still of interest to Boro.
Once Hull made it clear a move for Giles would prove difficult, Middlesbrough moved on to other targets and signed Neto Borges to provide cover at left-back in Alex Bangura’s absence.
Borges is settling in well at the Riverside but Giles may regret his decision not to push harder for a transfer after the Yorkshire outfit’s dismal start to the season.
Giles has featured in all five of Hull’s Championship fixtures this season but they are still yet to win a single game.
Tim Walter’s men have drawn three and lost two this term, seeing them drop down into the relegation zone with the two other teams yet to win a league game in 2024/25.
Staying at Hull looks set to be a major setback for Giles, who has gone from playing in the Premier League and fighting for a play-off place with Middlesbrough to scrapping it out to simply stay in the Championship.

How is Neto Borges faring at Middlesbrough
While Giles is yet to be on the winning side this season, Middlesbrough’s alternative to the Englishman has had a great start to the campaign.
Borges, who arrived from Ligue 2 outfit Clermont Foot 63, was thrown straight into the eleven by Carrick four days after he signed.
The Brazilian made his debut in the 2-0 win over Cardiff prior to the international break and did not put a foot wrong.
The left-back was in from the off over the weekend as well when Middlesbrough drew with Preston North End.
Preston’s goal came down Boro’s left but Borges was not at fault, with Matt Clarke caught out of position out wide, leaving a massive gap in the home side’s box.
