Michael Carrick is close to securing his first signing of deadline day for Middlesbrough.
The 2024 summer transfer window has seen Middlesbrough make seven first-team additions so far but two more are now expected at the club this week.
Boro want a centre-back to provide cover amid their ongoing injury crisis that began in pre-season.
On that front, Middlesbrough are expected to sign George Edmundson from Ipswich Town.
The details of that deal are currently unknown, with a loan or permanent transfer both still possible.
Meanwhile, news broke on Friday afternoon that Middlesbrough want to sign Ben Doak on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

Middlesbrough win transfer race for Ben Doak
It was understood that Hull City were also interested in the winger and that Liverpool were still deciding which club would be best for the player’s development.
However, Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has now provided a new update on the situation, confirming on X/Twitter than Doak is on his way to Teesside.
He wrote: “UPDATE: Middlesbrough look to have won the race to sign Liverpool winger Ben Doak.
“It’s understood the 18yo is on his way to Teesside to undergo a medical and finalise the paperwork on a season-long loan deal.”
How will Middlesbrough use Ben Doak
The Doak signing came somewhat of of the blue and it remains to be seen what role he will have at the Riverside.
After breaking into the Reds’ first team last year, Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish dubbed Doak ‘brilliant’, as per footballscotland, suggesting he could be a top player for his new side.
But the 18-year-old is a natural right winger and Boro are already well-stocked in that area.
Middlesbrough have Isaiah Jones and Micah Hamilton as options on the right currently, while Marcus Forss is expected to be used out wide once he returns from injury.
In turn, the arrival of Doak is slightly surprising but it will give Carrick some more attacking firepower going forward.
