Middlesbrough let a number of players leave the club during the summer transfer window.

It was a hectic 2024 summer transfer window at the Riverside Stadium, both on the incomings and outgoings front.

Middlesbrough welcomed nine new faces through the door in the most recent transfer window.

Aidan Morris, Delan Burgzorg, Luke Ayling, Harley Hunt, Micah Hamilton, Tommy Conway, Neto Borges, Ben Doak and George Edmundson have arrived to strengthen Michael Carrick’s team.

With so many new faces now on Teesside though, there were bound to many plenty of exits as well.

Middlesbrough sold, released or loaned a total of eight players during the summer of 2024 and Boro News have taken a look at how they are all getting on so far this season.

How the players Middlesbrough released for free are getting on in 2024/25

Middlesbrough released three senior players following the 2023/24 Championship season.

Paddy McNair and Liam Roberts left shortly after the conclusion of the previous campaign while Jamie Jones, despite travelling with the squad to Portugal in pre-season, left later in the summer.

McNair signed for MLS outfit San Diego FC but is currently on loan in the Championship with West Bromwich Albion.

He is yet to feature in the league this season but did play 61 minutes in the League Cup for the Baggies.

Roberts is also back in the second division having joined Millwall. He has started both of their cup games so far in 2024/25, being left on the bench in the league.

Jones, meanwhile, has dropped down to League Two with Salford City and has started all four of their league fixtures this term, keeping two clean sheets.

How Middlesbrough loanees Sonny Finch, Josh Coburn, Zach Hemming and Sammy Silvera are doing

The influx of fresh talent at Boro this summer saw a number of players go out on loan in order to garner more regular minutes.

Josh Coburn has moved to Millwall and enjoyed a superb debut, scoring one and assisting one in a win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Zach Hemming has come in for criticism from Leyton Orient’s manager after a mistake cost them a recent game but he remains their number one goalkeeper.

Sonny Finch moved to MK Dons on deadline day but the forward was injured in his first outing and is now a doubt for the weekend’s fixture.

Sammy Silvera has started three of Portsmouth’s four league games in 2024/25, of course being ineligible for their meeting with Boro.

The 23-year-old is yet to score or assist but has looked sharp in his limited outings for the South Coast outfit.

How Hayden Coulson is performing at Blackpool

Hayden Coulson spent 2023/24 on loan with Blackpool and has now re-joined them on a permanent basis.

The left-back was Middlesbrough’s only sale this summer, though the exact fee he was sold for is undisclosed.

Coulson started Blackpool’s first three League One matches this term, losing two and drawing one. The 26-year-old missed their last outing with a knock.
