Middlesbrough sold Morgan Rogers last season but will receive more money for the player in 2024/25.

After losing the likes of Cameron Archer, Aaron Ramsey and Chuba Akpom at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, Boro needed to dip into the transfer market in the summer of 2023 to strengthen their forward line.

Last season’s top scorer, Emmanuel Latte Lath, was brought in from Atalanta BC to replace Akpom.

Morgan Rogers then arrived at the club from Manchester City to add some much-needed quality depth in midfield after to departure of Rasmey.

Middlesbrough paid around £1.2m for the former Sky Blues youngster, which looked a real bargain after his first six months at the club.

Rogers featured 33 times in all competitions for Michael Carrick’s men, scoring seven and assisting nine.

However, Premier League outfit Aston Villa then came calling late in the January transfer window, with Rogers leaving the Riverside Stadium for Villa Park on February 1st, 2024.

How much Middlesbrough will earn from Morgan Rogers transfer

Rogers quickly cemented himself as a top player for Unai Emery and has enjoyed a prolific start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The Midlands outfit agreed to pay around £11m up front for the 22-year-old but a number of performance-related add-ons were included in the deal.

Now, Teesside Live have revealed when and how much Middlesbrough are expected to earn from those add-ons.

All told, the add-ons included in the deal that saw Rogers swap the Championship for the Premier League total £5m.

And in a big boost for the Teessiders, it is understood that the £5m still due to Middlesbrough will all be met and paid during the current campaign.

What will Middlesbrough do with Morgan Rogers transfer money

With an extra £5m coming their way this term, Boro fans may be hoping to see their side spend big in the January transfer window.

However, despite £5m being quite a lot for a Championship team, it appears Carrick will not really be able to spend it going forward.

This is because, as per the report above, the expectation Boro were going to earn money from the Englishman’s transfer this season allowed them to spend well over the summer and turn down offers for their bigger names.

Middlesbrough bought Tommy Conway for £4.5m, Micah Hamilton for £3.5m and Aidan Morris joined from Columbus Crew for around £3.18m.

There were also permanent transfers agreed for Delano Burgzorg, Neto Borges and Luke Ayling.

At the same time, the North East outfit only sold one player over the summer – Hayden Coulson to Blackpool for an undisclosed fee.

As a result, it appears Boro have already spent the Rogers money and will likely have little spare for a winter spending spree.
