Middlesbrough paid big money to sign Tommy Conway from Bristol City this summer.
Boro wanted to sign a new striker in the current window and finally got their man ahead of their meeting with Derby County last week.
Tommy Conway has joined Middlesbrough from Bristol City for a fee of £4.5m, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.
The Teessiders are yet to see too much of the 22-year-old but Tony Pulis thinks Conway will fit in at Middlesbrough.
On top of Conway, Michael Carrick has signed five more players this summer, including Aidan Morris for £3.18m and Micah Hamilton from Manchester City for around £3.5m including add-ons.
But the former Bristol City man is, at present, Middlesbrough’s most expensive addition this summer.
So, where does Conway rank among Middlesbrough’s most expensive transfers of all time?

Middlesbrough most expensive striker signings and where Tommy Conway ranks
If there is one area of the pitch Middlesbrough are not affaird to spend big on it is their striker department.
Boro broke their transfer record in January 2008 when they signed Afonso Alves from SC Heerenveen.
The Brazilian had a nightmare spell at the Riverside and is widely considered the club’s biggest transfer flop.
Alves’ transfer record stood for just over nine years before it was ended in 2017 when Britt Assombalonga was signed from Nottingham Forest.
Assombalonga cost Middlesbrough £14.46m, as per Transfermarkt, and remains the club’s record signing to this day.
The likes of Jordan Rhodes, Martin Braithwaite and Mido crack the top-10 list for Boro’s most expensive striker signings while Conway’s £4.5m puts him 16th in the list.

It is not just strikers who Middlesbrough have splashed the cash on over the years, however.
Centre-back Ugo Ehiogu is Boro’s third-most expensive transfer after his move from Aston Villa in the 2000/01 season.
Atalanta BC midfielder Marten de Roon is seventh on the list, while Gareth Southgate comes in at number nine – one place higher than the club’s current assistant coach, Jonathan Woodgate.
As for Conway, with Boro spending less on players now they are no longer a Premier League club, he ranks 37th in the most expensive signings list.
The striker is one place above Michael Ricketts, whom he will be desperate not to emulate after he scored just four goals in 39 matches during his spell at Boro.
