Middlesbrough look to be willing to sell one of their senior players this summer.
Boro were in League Cup action on Wednesday evening against local rivals, Leeds United.
Middlesbrough had not won at Elland Road for over a decade and were without a win against The Whites in any competition since 2018.
As a result, a tough evening was expected for Michael Carrick, who fielded a weak eleven for the clash.
However, Middlesbrough beat Leeds United 3-0 thanks to goals from Anfernee Dijksteel, summer signing Delano Burgzorg, and Josh Coburn.
The Teessiders struggled in the opening exchanges but completely dominated proceedings in the second half.
The fixture was a great chance for a number of fringe players to prove themselves to the Boro boss ahead of Middlesbrough vs Derby County this weekend.
Dijksteel has given Carrick a selection headache after his starring performance at right-back and could now feature ahead of Luke Ayling this weekend.

Michael Carrick has made stance on Middlesbrough player clear
It was not just Dijksteel who should have played his way into the manager’s thinking, though.
The aforementioned Burgzorg was impressive vs Leeds and may now be in line for his first competitive start against Derby.
However, while several Boro players used Wednesday’s game to bolster their profile at the club, a decision made by Carrick prior to the match has all but confirmed one man will be sold this month.
Seny Dieng is Middlesbrough’s number-one goalkeeper, starting against Swansea last week.
Behind him, there was some debate over who would be the number two, with Sol Brynn and Tom Glover competing for that spot.
Former Melbourne City coach Rado Vidosic dubbed the latter ‘fantastic’ ahead of his transfer to Boro, as per A Leagues.
And Glover was backup to Dieng in 2023/24 but that role now belongs to Brynn, who started and played well against Leeds.
Glover is an Australian international and will not be happy staying at the club if he is now third-choice.
Celtic wanted to sign the Boro goalkeeper earlier this summer, so suitors should not be hard to come by now it is clear the 26-year-old is no longer in Carrick’s plans.

Middlesbrough need to replace Tom Glover
The Middlesbrough goalkeeper saga has taken up much of the summer and looks set to continue with the sale of Glover.
Boro ended the 2023/24 season with five senior goalkeepers on their books.
However, Jamie Jones has now left on a free transfer, while Zach Hemming has joined Leyton Orient on a season-long loan.
Jones spent the previous campaign as Boro’s third-choice and was expected to sign a new contract this summer to maintain that role.
But his departure has thrown a spanner in the works as Carrick now has three goalkeepers who will all want to play on a regular basis.
Now Brynn has been chosen as the number two, though, it seems obvious Glover will have to, and probably wants to, leave Middlesbrough before deadline day.
