Celtic have made a transfer decision regarding the potential signing of Middlesbrough goalkeeper Tom Glover.

Middlesbrough have already parted ways with a number of first-team players in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Paddy McNair and Liam Roberts left the club when their contracts expired back in June.

Hayden Coulson was then sold to Blackpool, while Sammy Silvera has joined Portsmouth on loan for the 2024/25 season.

The outgoings at the Riverside Stadium may not stop there, though, as several players could still leave Middlesbrough in 2024.

Middlesbrough have made Anfernee Dijksteel available for sale, while Dan Barlaser has received transfer interest from a European side.

Celtic decide against Tom Glover transfer

Another player who has attracted transfer interest in the current window is goalkeeper Tom Glover.

Glover signed for Middlesbrough on a free transfer last summer and spent 2023/24 as backup to Seny Dieng.

Scottish powerhouse Celtic were understood to be interested in the keeper but a fresh report from the Northern Echo suggests they are no longer looking to sign the Australian.

They report that Brendan Rodgers’ main priority this summer was a replacement for Joe Hart and Glover was one of the names being looked at.

However, the Hoops’ search for a Hart replacement is now expected to conclude with the capture of Kasper Schmeichel on a free transfer.

Should Middlesbrough sell Glover

Glover did not have the most prolific first year in England but was previously dubbed ‘fantastic’ by Melbourne City coach Rado Vidosic, as per A-League.

However, it may be best for all parties if Middlesbrough look to move the 26-year-old on this summer.

Zach Hemming and Sol Brynn have returned to Boro after loan spells in 2023/24, highlighting the key transfer issue Carrick is now facing.

Dieng, Glover, Hemming, and Brynn are all competing to be first and second choice options in 2024/25.

This is simply too many players for two positions and at least one of them should be sold in the current window.

Glover was an adequate number two last term but as Middlesbrough signed him for free 12 months ago, his sale in 2024 would allow the club to make a quick profit.

It would also open the door for former academy star Hemming to gain more experience after he shone at St Mirren.
