Middlesbrough have just had their best transfer window for several years.

Boro reached the play-off semi-finals when Michael Carrick first took the reigns at the club.

This past season was less fruitful, with Middlesbrough missing out on the top six by just four points.

That blow was brought about by injury issues and the fact the Teessiders lost so many big names during the summer of 2023.

This year, however, backed by Steve Gibson, the Boro boss and Head of Football Kieran Scott have made some quality additions.

All told, the North East outfit welcomed nine new players to the Riverside Stadium over the summer.

The majority did arrive on permanent deals but deadline say signings Ben Doak and George Edmundson were signed to season-long and six-month loan deals.

Middlesbrough have also moved on some of the deadwood from their squad and allowed fringe players to go out on loan in order to play more regularly.

Middlesbrough 2024 summer transfer window verdict

As well as signing nine new players, Gibson deserves credit for not allowing any top names to leave the Riverside.

Emmanuel Latte Lath, Hayden Hackney and Rav van den Berg were all the subject of interest over the summer but will remain at Boro until at least January.

Now, speaking on the You Are My Boro podcast, journalist Dominic Shaw has given his verdict on Middlesbrough’s summer window.

He said: “The deals that didn’t happen will prove to be just as important. It’s been a bold window for Boro.

“It has the look of being a hugely successful window, it has the look of being an extremely impressive window, and that’s without considering the fact that you’ve kept those three players we are talking about again and again

“It looks a strong squad now, it really does.”

Who will be the best Middlesbrough 2024 summer transfer window signing

Though we are only four games into the Championship season, a number of the club’s new additions are already looking like great buys.

After some dismal displays from Lukas Engel, Neto Borges was thrown straight into the eleven this past weekend and looked very comfortable.

Aidan Morris shone for Middlesbrough vs Cardiff City as well and has arguably been their most consistent player this term.

It will also be interesting to see how Doak fares once he finally makes his debut for the Reds.

There is a lot of hype around the 18-year-old but fans may have to wait a while to see him start a fixture.

The Scotsman was brought in late on deadline day and is now one of nine Middlesbrough players on international duty this month.
