Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has revealed his transfer plan for one player he labelled as ‘terrific’.

Middlesbrough have had an active 2024 summer transfer window so far, with four new additions already made.

Luke Ayling, Delano Burgzorg, Aidan Morris, and Harley Hunt have all made moves to the Riverside Stadium, with the latter expected to link up with Middlesbrough’s academy.

There have also been several departures, loans, and players released at Boro in the current window.

Paddy McNair, Liam Roberts and Jamie Jones have all left the club after the expiration of their contracts.

Hayden Coulson left Teesside last month, signing for League One outfit Blackpool in a permanent deal.

Elsewhere, Sammy Silvera and Zach Hemming have both gone out on loan for the 2024/25 season.

Silvera has joined Portsmouth, while Hemming will ply his trade in League One with Leyton Orient.

Michael Carrick outlines Sol Brynn future plan

Despite Hemming leaving Boro this week, there were still question marks over the future of Sol Brynn.

The goalkeeper spent 2023/24 on loan with Leyton Orient and is yet to make a senior appearance for Middlesbrough.

As a result, a loan move or even a permanent transfer could have been on the cards for the Brynn this summer.

However, speaking after Boro’s win over Gateshead on Wednesday, Michael Carrick confirmed he plans to keep Brynn in the North East for 2024/25, while also labelling him as ‘terrific’, as per Teesside Live.

He said: “We have three really good goalkeepers. We have Seny, who has played a lot of games.

“Tom has had really good experience and played a number of games last season, we know what Tom can do.

“And Sol had a terrific season last season and it’s the right time for him to come back and train with us and push to play. I’m really happy with the three we’ve got.”

Michael Carrick still has Middlesbrough transfer decision to make

Carrick may be happy to keep Brynn at Middlesbrough as one of his three goalkeepers for the upcoming season.

However, Brynn staying put means Tom Glover will likely need to be moved on in the current window.

Seny Dieng will be Boro’s number one in 2024/25, leaving Glover and Brynn to fill the other two spots.

However, Glover is an Australian international, and Brynn needs game time to develop further.

In turn, neither player will likely be happy in a third-choice role and even if Carrick rotates the pair in cup games, it will still not be enough minutes.

Glover signed on a free transfer last summer so Middlesbrough can make a quick profit on him if he is sold this year.
