Middlesbrough could make a surprise late push to sign a Premier League player in a bid to aid their promotion push.
Boro’s 2024/25 Championship campaign has not got off to a great start.
After losing just one of their last 12 league outings in the previous season, Middlesbrough were expected to be among the promotion favourites this time around.
Michael Carrick watched his side beat Swansea City 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium to kick off what looked to be a promising run of results.
However, despite playing two of the three newly promoted sides in their last two league fixtures, Boro remain winless since the opening day.
Middlesbrough lost to Derby County before a 2-2 draw with Portsmouth on home soil this past weekend.
In a bid to strengthen his squad and get their promotion charge back on track, Carrick is now seemingly looking to add some more firepower to his squad.

Middlesbrough make late push for Premier League player
It was reported last week that Middlesbrough hold an interest in Tom Cannon of Leicester City.
Now, with just over 24 hours of the summer transfer window remaining, it appears the club are still keen to sign the striker.
This comes after journalist Alan Nixon reported on his Patreon that Boro are making a ‘shock’ move for Cannon.
He wrote: “Middlesbrough are making a shock late move into the race for Leicester City’s available striker Tom Cannon.
“Michael Carrick wants even more firepower for his promotion push and has made a bid to the Foxes for their fringe man.
“The offer is close what Luton have tabled and more than Sunderland and Hull City have come up with.
“Cannon may be allowed to speak to a couple of clubs before the window shuts but the pace of the move – vital in his career – is putting huge pressure on him to pick his next move.”

What strikers will Middlesbrough end the transfer window with
One of the North East outfit’s main priorities in the summer transfer window was the addition of a new striker.
Boro got that done ahead of their meeting with Derby earlier this month when they signed Tommy Conway for £4.5m from Bristol City.
With Conway at the club, Carrick has now Emmanuel Latte Lath, Josh Coburn and his newest centre-forward to pick from in his 4-2-3-1 formation.
One of those names could still leave the club this week, though, with Millwall holding an interest in Coburn.
Should that happen, Carrick may want to once again ensure he has three centre-forwards at his disposal, hence a late move for Cannon.
Before joining Leicester, the then-Everton forward spent time on loan with Preston North End where, as per the Lancashire Post, he was labelled ‘brilliant’ by Ryan Ledson.
Cannon has not had the best stint at the King Power Stadium but he has the quality to replace Coburn if he moves to Millwall.
