Middlesbrough have had some big names represent them for England over the years.
Boro are not the biggest club in the world but thanks to the backing of owner Steve Gibson, they have had some huge players grace the Riverside Stadium throughout their history.
Of those Middlesbrough legends, quite a few have gone on to represent England while playing for the Teessiders.
And in the case of former club captain Gareth Southgate, even manage the Three Lions.
Now, Boro News have taken a look at the top five Middlesbrough players to earn international caps for England.

Gareth Southgate
The most obvious name for this list was, of course, the aforementioned Southgate.
The former centre-back played over 200 games for Middlesbrough and captained them during their most successful period as a club – winning the League Cup and reaching the UEFA Cup final in 2006.
For England, Southgate earned a total of 57 caps and scored two goals, making his debut on December 12th, 1995.

Jonathan Woodgate
Jonathan Woodgate had three different spells at Middlesbrough throughout his career.
The ex-defender featured 112 times in all competitions for his boyhood club, helping them win promotion to the Premier League during his final stint between 2012-2016.
Woodgate made his England debut on June 9th, 1999, featuring seven more times for the Three Lions.

Stewart Downing
Stewart Downing began his career on Teesside and is one of the club’s most capped players.
He made 404 appearances, scored 32 goals and assisted 55 times during two spells at the club while also enjoying stints at Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Downing made his England debut on February 9th, 2005 and earned a total of 35 caps for his country.

Ugo Ehiogu
Ugo Ehiogu joined Boro from Aston Villa in 2000 and went on to form a superb partnership with Southgate at the heart of the Reds’ backline.
He made 151 appearances for Middlesbrough and was in the starting line-up for their League Cup triumph over Bolton Wanderers.
Ehiogu was handed his England debut on May 23rd, 1996, earning another three international caps throughout his career.

Paul Gascoigne
Paul Gascoigne did not have the most prolific stint at Middlesbrough, scoring four and assisting one in 45 appearances.
But the former midfielder will go down in history as one of England’s most memorable players.
Gascoigne earned his first England cap on September 14th, 1988, and featured 57 times for the Three Lions, scoring 10 goals in the process.
