England manager Thomas Tuchel can now give Middlesbrough a major boost by making one decision

Thomas Tuchel could inadvertently help out Middlesbrough by doing one thing now he is England boss.

Middlesbrough legend Gareth Southgate stepped down as England manager after Euro 2024.

The ex-Boro skipper guided the Three Lions to back-to-back European Championship finals for the first time in the country’s history but lost on both occasions to Italy and, most recently, Spain.

Despite Southgate not playing the most interesting football, he remains arguably their most successful manager in the modern era.

Replacing the former Middlesbrough man was no easy task and given the lack of quality English coaches available, the FA instead opted to go with a foreign appointment.

Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello were previously the only two non-English managers to take up the role, with neither having too much success.

But ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has now been handed the job and Middlesbrough will be hoping the German does them a big favour in the coming months.

How England manager Thomas Tuchel can help Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough sold Morgan Rogers to Aston Villa in the 2024 January transfer window, just six months after they signed him from Manchester City.

Rogers shone on his Champions League debut for Aston Villa in September and has become a key figure for Unai Emery.

Boro sold the winger for an initial £11m and Middlesbrough will earn around £5m from Rogers’ add-ons.

One of those add-ons will be triggered when and if he makes his debut for England’s senior team.

Interim England boss Lee Carsley was seemingly not too big a fan of Rogers as he left him out of both of his squads for the September and October international breaks, with the player instead linking up with current Middlesbrough ace Hayden Hackney at U21 level.

The decision not to call up Rogers was pretty strange given the excellent form he has been in at club level but now Tuchel is in the dugout, he should hopefully finally hand the Villa man a deserved debut and, in turn, give Boro a financial boost.

Middlesbrough stars who could make England debut under Thomas Tuchel

As well as Rogers, there are a couple of current Middlesbrough players who could make their senior England debut under Tuchel.

The most likely star to be handed a senior call-up by the former Chelsea man is the aforementioned Hackney.

The 22-year-old made his U21 debut in 2023 and has so far played five times for the Young Lions.

Elsewhere, though it is unlikely to happen this season, the likes of Law McCabe, Harley Hunt and George McCormick could all have futures with the national team, following in the footsteps of Middlesbrough’s mot successful England internationals, including the likes of Southgate and Stewart Downing.
