Middlesbrough want to sign Tommy Conway from Bristol City but there may be better options available.
Boro have so far signed three first-team players in the 2024 summer transfer window.
A right-back, central midfielder, and left-winger have been brought to the Riverside to help strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad for the 2024/25 Championship season.
However, another area is expected to be improved before deadline day on August 30th as a new striker remains a priority for Middlesbrough.
Over the last week, those in a position of power at the club have taken steps toward achieving this goal.
Bristol City forward Tommy Conway was linked with Middlesbrough on Monday for the first time.
Details of Boro’s bid for Conway emerged the following day and, in truth, were quite surprising.
It was claimed that the Teessiders had made a £5m offer to City for the striker.
That sum seems quite excessive given he only scored 10 goals last season and he would not start ahead of Emmanuel Latte Lath.
As a result, Middlesbrough should look to loan a young Premier League striker instead of signing Conway for such a high sum.
Now, Boro News have picked up three young Premier League strikers Middlesbrough could loan in place of the Bristol City man.

Khayon Edwards
Khayon Edwards is a product of Arsenal’s academy and has spent his entire career to date on the books of the Gunners.
The 18-year-old was a standout performer for their U18 side, scoring 23 goals and providing nine assists in 41 matches.
The teenager then made the step up to the U23 team, for whom he has found the net 14 times and provided four assists in 36 games.
Edwards has earned comparisons to Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah and looks set for a bright future in the game.
He has just seven senior appearances to his name from a brief loan spell with Leyton Orient.
But as any striker signed by Boro this summer will be a backup to Latte Lath anyway, Carrick and co. can afford to risk signing inexperienced players.

Donnell McNeilly
The next player Middlesbrough should look to loan as a Conway alternative is another London-based striker, Donnell McNeilly.
McNeilly is a product of Chelsea’s academy and unlike Edwards, is yet to make the step up to senior football.
However, his displays for the Blues’ youth sides show he is now ready to do so and Boro could be the perfect place for him.
McNeilly has a superb record for Chelsea’s U18 team, scoring 34 and assisting 10 in 43 games.
The 18-year-old can operate on either flank as well but is most prolific through the middle – scoring 23 and assisting six in 26 games as a centre-forward.

Will Lankshear
Boro fans should already be familiar with the name Will Lankshear as he has been linked with the club in the past.
Middlesbrough are understood to have scouted the Tottenham Hotspur youngster back in May.
Last month, meanwhile, it was reported that Tottenham will let Middlesbrough target Lankshear go out on loan this season.
Sunderland and Hull City are also thought to be interested in the centre-forward but Boro should beat them to his signature.
Lankshear shone for Spurs’ U21 team in 2023/24, scoring 25 and assisting three in 26 outings.
The 19-year-old has also put in a number of impressive displays during the Lilywhites’ 2024 pre-season campaign.
