Middlesbrough are close to signing Micah Hamilton from Manchester City.

Boro look set to add a fifth summer signing to their ranks before the close of the transfer window on August 30th.

Michael Carrick is aiming to take Middlesbrough back to the Premier League at the the third time of asking in 2024/25.

The Teessiders have been active in the market so far this summer in a bid to strengthen their squad for a proper promotion push.

Harley Hunt has linked up with the club’s academy, signing from Swindon Town after Middlesbrough beat two Premier League sides to his signature.

For their first-team squad, meanwhile, the North East outfit have brought in Luke Ayling, Delano Burgzorg, and Aidan Morris.

The Reds are not expected to stop there, however, with a new striker and a winger potentially on their way to the Riverside.

Boro News understands Middlesbrough have the edge in the Tommy Conway transfer race as the club’s hierarchy is close to the striker’s agents, and that good relationship could give them an advantage.

Carrick and co. are facing competition from Hull City and Burnley for Conway’s signature this month.

How much Middlesbrough will pay for Micah Hamilton

Another player expected to make the move to Teesside in the current window is Micah Hamilton.

News of the club’s interest in the Manchester City starlet broke on Monday and a deal now appears to be close.

Boro News understands that Man City have interested a buy-back clause into Middlesbrough’s Hamilton deal.

Now, we can reveal how much Middlesbrough will pay the Sky Blues for the 20-year-old’s services.

Boro News have spoken to transfer expert Graeme Bailey to clarify the fee amid unconfirmed reports elsewhere claiming it was significantly less than £3.5m.

He said: “£3.5m overall including add-ons, not sure I would say significantly.”

How will Middlesbrough use Micah Hamilton

The Manchester-born star is a product of City’s academy and has spent his entire career to date with the Sky Blues.

Hamilton is a natural left-winger, which means he could rival Riley McGree and Delano Burgzorg on that flank.

He also has plenty of experience playing as number 10, meaning Hamilton could fill in for Finn Azaz if he picks up a knock or needs a rest.

However, the most likely position for Hamilton at Middlesbrough is the right wing.

Marcus Forss will miss the opening of the 2024/25 campaign due to an injury he picked up midway through last term.

As a result, Isaiah Jones is Carrick’s only senior option on the right flank going into the new season.

Sonny Finch has supported Jones in pre-season but he is a centre-forward and coming off the back of an injury-hit campaign as well.

In turn, Hamilton should rival and potentially even replace the inconsistent Jones on the right of Boro’s attack.
