Middlesbrough face a tough battle to land Tommy Conway from Bristol City this month.
Boro are hoping to add another centre-forward to their ranks before the close of the 2024 summer transfer window.
A new striker is a priority for Middlesbrough in the remainder of the window as Michael Carrick aims to add better competition for Emmanuel Latte Lath.
The Ivorian scored 11 in his last 12 Championship games of 2023/24 but he had a slow start to the previous campaign.
In a bid to avoid a repeat of a similar issue in the coming season, Middlesbrough are trying to sign Tommy Conway from Bristol City.
Conway is looking to leave the Robins this summer after turning down a new contract recently.
Details of Middlesbrough’s bid for Conway were revealed last week, with Boro thought to have offered up £5m for the player.
However, the North East outfit’s offer was thought to be heavily incentivised.

Why Middlesbrough could have edge in Tommy Conway race
Boro are not the only club believed to aiming to try and sign the 22-year-old this summer, though.
It was reported last week that recently relegated outfit Burnley are interested in signing Conway as well.
The Clarets are said to be in talks with City over a potential swap deal for the forward, which could involve Scott Twine and Luke McNally.
More recently, another Championship side, Hull City, are thought to have matched Middlesbrough’s bid of £5m for the Bristol City man.
Such heavy competition may lead some fans to believe Middlesbrough could miss out on the Scotland international.
However, Boro News have spoken exclusively to Graeme Bailey about the club’s move for the striker.
And he revealed that Middlesbrough’s hierarchy is close to Conway’s agents, and that good relationship could give them the edge when it comes to getting a deal over the line.

What Tommy Conway will bring to Middlesbrough
As already mentioned, Latte Lath did not have a great start to the 2023/24 season.
The forward was signed as a replacement for Chub Akpom, who left in the summer of 2023 after scoring 29 goals in one season.
The ex-Atalanta BC man took some time to adjust to life in England, which hampered Boro’s early-season form.
Carrick and co. failed to win their opening five league games of the season. Had they picked up just one win and one draw from said matches, they would have finished inside the play-offs.
But if Conway were to sign for Middlesbrough this summer, it would decrease the chances of Middlesbrough lacking any real goal threat if Latte Lath is not in top form.
The centre-forward still has plenty of potential and has already been City’s primary number nine for several years.
Despite the Robins’ struggles, he was able to find the net 10 times in 39 Championship games last term.
