Middlesbrough are closing in on signing number seven of the summer.

Michael Carrick has so far signed five first-team players for Boro in the current transfer window.

Luke Ayling arrived on a free transfer from Leeds United before being joined by Delano Burgzorg and Aidan Morris.

Middlesbrough then added Harley Hunt to their academy ranks before taking a brief break in the market.

After assessing his squad in pre-season, Carrick has, so far, opted to make two more new additions to his team.

Micah Hamilton joined Middlesbrough from Manchester City ahead of their meeting with Swansea City for £3.5m including add-ons.

Hamilton was followed through the door a week later by a striker signing, with Tommy Conway making his Boro debut against Derby County on August 17th after joining from Bristol City.

Middlesbrough to sign a left-back

With six names through the door, Middlesbrough want to sign a left-back to cap off their transfer window.

Lukas Engel is the only option in that role currently but that is about to change this weekend.

This comes with journalist Marc Mechenoua taking to X/Twitter on Saturday, August 24th, to report that Boro are set to sign Neto Borges.

He wrote: “Neto Borges is about to leave Clermont for England. He should sign with Middlesbrough in the next few hours.”

What does Neto Borges transfer mean for Ryan Giles moving to Middlesbrough

For much of the summer, Middlesbrough have been linked with Ryan Giles of Hull City.

However, little progress has been made on that front and Boro News understands a deal was always going to prove difficult due to price and the Tigers not being especially keen to sell.

The arrival of Borges at Middlesbrough likely means that the Teessiders’ pursuit of Giles will now come to an end.

The 27-year-old Brazilian joined Clermont Foot on a free transfer from KRC Genk in July 2022 and has since played 64 times for the French outfit, scoring three and assisting six.
