The Middlesbrough squad has undergone some quite drastic changes during the summer of 2024.
Michael Carrick has made a number of changes to his Middlesbrough squad during the current transfer window.
With the backing of Steve Gibson, the Teessiders have signed four new players; Luke Ayling, Delano Burgzorg, Aidan Morris, and Harley Hunt.
That number could soon rise to five as Middlesbrough will pay £3.5m for Micah Hamilton ahead of a permanent transfer from Manchester City.
The North East outfit have also been busy on the outgoings front over the last few months.
Kieran Scott made 14 signings for Middlesbrough in 2023/24, leading to an inflated team for Carrick to pick from.
As a result, those in a position of power have been working hard to trim the side down ahead of the new season.
Here we look at what’s happened to the 10 players who’ve left Middlesbrough this summer…

Paddy McNair
After six years at the Riverside, Paddy McNair left Middlesbrough in May 2024 when his contract expired.
McNair has joined San Diego FC in the MLS but will spend the first half of 2024/25 on loan with West Bromwich Albion.
Liam Roberts
Liam Roberts left the North East outfit at the same time as McNair, being released on a free in May.
The goalkeeper, who made just five appearances for Boro, has now joined Championship rivals, Millwall.
Jamie Jones
Jamies Jones spent the 2023/24 season as the club’s third-choice goalkeeper option and did not make an appearance.
His deal ran out at the end of June and Jones was expected to sign a new contract with Middlesbrough but has since left for Salford City.

Hayden Coulson
Gateshead-born Hayden Coulson began his career with Middlesbrough’s academy but struggled to break into the first team.
The left-back spent 2023/24 on loan with Blackpool and has now re-joined the League One side permanently.
Sammy Silvera
Sammy Silvera was signed by Boro in the 2023 summer transfer window, scoring six and assisting three in 42 games last term.
However, Middlesbrough decided to loan Silvera to Portsmouth so he can gain more experience in England.
Zach Hemming
Zach Hemming is another product of the club’s academy who was expected to see some first-team action in 2024/25.
But despite his impressive loan spell with St Miren this past season, the goalkeeper has been sent out on loan again, this time with Leyton Orient.

Luke Ayling
Ayling left Middlesbrough at the end of 2023/24 when his loan deal from Leeds United expired.
The right-back was a standout star for Boro earlier this year and has returned to the club on a free transfer.
Sam Greenwood
Like Ayling, Sam Greenwood was loaned to Boro from Leeds last year. His spell was not quite as prolific, however, and he has now joined Preston North End on another temporary deal.
Luke Thomas
Luke Thomas made 13 appearances for Middlesbrough while on loan from Leicester City in 2023/24.
The left-back has returned to the King Power and will be plying his trade in the Premier League in the forthcoming season after the Foxes’ recent promotion.
Lewis O’Brien
Like Thomas and Greenwood, Lewis O’Brien failed to shine during his temporary stint at the Riverside from Nottingham Forest.
The midfielder has now left the City Ground for MLS outfit, Los Angeles FC.
