Summer signing Delano Burgzorg scored his first-ever goal for Middlesbrough recently after his move from Mainz 05.
Middlesbrough ended the 2023/24 season in superb form, losing just one of their final 12 league outings.
If Michael Carrick is to return Boro to the Premier League for the first time in seven years this season, a similar run of results will be needed across the full 2024/25 Championship season.
Boro endured an injury-hit 2023/24 but the majority of their first-team squad are now back fit – though two players are expected to miss Middlesbrough’s opener versus Swansea City on August 10th.
As well as welcoming back several key players from the sidelines, Boro have been active in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Luke Ayling re-joined the North East outfit on a free transfer after spending the second half of last term on loan at the Riverside.
Aidan Morris also moved to the club from MLS outfit Columbus Crew, while Delano Burgzorg has arrived from Mainz 05.

Delano Burgzorg scores debut Middlesbrough goal
All three of Middlesbrough’s summer signings were in action for the club this past weekend.
Carrick’s men faced off with Bolton Wanderers in their first proper pre-season fixture of the summer on July 20th.
The Teessiders came out on top thanks to goals from Emmanuel Latte Lath, academy star Sonny Finch, and the Burgzorg.
The Dutch forward converted from 12 yards after a well-worked Boro move was ended via Dan Barlaser being fouled in the Bolton box.
Middlesbrough’s official TikTok account have now shared footage of the goal and the build-up to the penalty.

How will Middlesbrough use Delano Burgzorg
Carrick fielded two separate elevens during the Bolton victory, with Burgzorg playing the second 45.
The former Huddersfield Town forward impressed on his debut, showcasing his pace, skill, and desire to run at defenders.
There were times during the game when Burgzorg’s more negative qualities were on display, failing to find his teammates when they were in better positions than him.
But the 25-year-old looks set to be an exciting player who will bring some flair to Boro’s attack.
Based on the Bolton game, Carrick will deploy Burgzorg in his natural left-wing role, rather than as a centre-forward like Huddersfield did in 2023/24.
In turn, he will be competing for a starting berth with Riley McGree, who recently signed a new four-year deal with the club.
