Middlesbrough are set for a fairly quiet end to the 2024 summer transfer window.

Boro got the majority of their summer transfer business done pretty early, with Luke Ayling, Aidan Morris and Delano Burgzorg all signed ahead of pre-season.

Harley Hunt and Micah Hamilton then joined ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign getting underway.

Since the season started, Middlesbrough have brought in Tommy Conway from Bristol City and Neto Borges from Ligue 2 outfit, Clermont Foot 63.

On deadline day, meanwhile, Middlesbrough are set to sign Ben Doak from Liverpool on loan for the rest of 2024/25.

On the outgoings front, Josh Coburn has joined Millwall but that is expected to be the only exit from the Riverside today.

BBC pundit backs up Steve Gibson point

As well as signing Doak, Middlesbrough have kept hold of Emmanuel Latte Lath after interest from Ipswich Town.

Now, speaking live on BBC Tees Sport Radio on Friday evening, Mark Drury has heaped praise on Middlesbrough for the transfer business they have done both on the incomings and outings front, while also agreeing with a point Steve Gibson made earlier this summer.

He said: “If Ben Doak does arrive, medical past and all the rest of it, then you look what they’ve done in this transfer window they brought in Luke Ayling, Aidan Morris, Delano Burgzorg, Micah Hamilton, Tommy Conway, Neto Borges and Ben Doak.

“Paddy McNair, Liam Roberts, Jamie Jones, Hayden Coulson, Sammy Silvera, Josh Coburn will be the players to have left.

“Now that is a really strong squad. I would say a much stronger squad at the end of the window than when you started it.

“And it also they’ve backed up the words of Kieran Scott at the start of the summer when he said we don’t want to be selling our best players we want to make this squad stronger.

“He was talking about Steve Gibson being adamant that they weren’t going to sell their best players unless mega offers arrived and as today’s events with the Emmanuel Latte Lath show they’re being as good as their word.”

Steve Gibson wish has come true this summer

The Gibson stance Drury is referring to emerged back in June at the start of the window.

As per Teesside Live, Kieran Scott spoke of how the Boro owner was adamant they would not sell any key players this summer.

He said: “The only chance we’re going to have of going up this season is keeping our best players.

“I speak to Steve [Gibson] regularly and he’s as strong and fiery on this as I’ve ever heard him in terms of us keeping our players here.”

Now, with just a few hours left of the window, Middlesbrough are looking very likely to keep hold of their top stars.

And as Druary mentioned above, Boro now have a very good squad for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

The Teessiders are back in action against Cardiff City on Saturday, looking to pick up their second win of the season.
