Middlesbrough man poised for Championship loan move, deal is ‘done’

Middlesbrough are having a fairly uneventful deadline day.

Michael Carrick may well have had some names in mind upon the final day of the summer transfer window, following a mixed start to the 2024/25 season.

But so far, the only transfer rumours at the Riverside regard possible outgoings, with Ipswich Town interested in Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Middlesbrough are interested in Tom Cannon but he has plenty of interest from elsewhere in the Championship.

Meanwhile, Boro attacker Josh Coburn has attracted interest, with Preston North End linked.

Coburn though is set for a move elsewhere in the Championship.

Josh Coburn poised for Middlesbrough loan exit

Coburn, 21, has been a talking point throughout this summer’s transfer window.

The Boro academy man made 21 Championship appearances last season and scored five times, having played twice in the league this season.

But with Carrick’s attacking options quite well-stocked, a loan exit for Coburn has been touted, and now it’s been all but confirmed.

South London Pres reporter Richard Cawley says that Coburn on loan to Millwall is ‘done’.

Will Middlesbrough regret loaning out Josh Coburn

Coburn’s situation is a tricky one for Middlesbrough.

He’s got clear Championship quality but he may have found game-time quite limited at Boro this season.

So a loan exit was likely, and Carrick will want him to stay at Championship level, so in that sense, a move to Millwall makes lot of sense.

Boro will just hope that Coburn at Millwall doesn’t come back to haunt them.

Millwall have started poorly but could soon move up the table and potentially become a rival to Middlesbrough in the play-off race.

Boro get back underway in the Championship this weekend with a trip to Cardiff City, following the 5-0 defeat vs Stoke City in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
