A Middlesbrough transfer is now picking up pace on deadline day.
It could be a busy Friday at the Riverside in terms of both incomings and outgoings.
Reports emerged on Thursday evening that Middlesbrough are plotting a late move for Tom Cannon of Leicester City, who is also wanted by the likes of Sheffield United and Luton Town.
While Boro already have a plethora of attacking options, Michael Carrick is understood to want more firepower to add to his promotion-chasing squad.
Elsewhere, a move for a new centre-back to provide cover for injured stars like Dael Fry and Rav van den Berg is also on the cards.
Boro News reported on Wednesday that Middlesbrough are in talks to sign a centre-back this week.
The club were talking with several loan options but appear to have found a concrete target on Friday.
Middlesbrough are one of several clubs in the race for George Edmundson of Ipswich Town, who is likely to move today.

Middlesbrough transfer picking up pace
Elsewhere, there could be a couple of outgoings at the Riverside on Friday.
Rav van den Berg has been linked to Fulham, with Carrick speaking out on those rumours ahead of Middlesbrough’s trip to Cardiff on Saturday.
Josh Coburn has been linked to Millwall this month as well, while Preston North End were rumoured to have joined that race recently.
Now, journalist Richard Cawley has taken to X/Twitter to provide an update on Millwall’s pursuit of Coburn.
He wrote: “Josh Coburn to Millwall on loan is picking up pace. Looking like it could be a busy old final day of the transfer window in SE16.
“Boro striker has been a big target for the Lions in this transfer window.”
Middlesbrough make right call on Josh Coburn
Millwall loaning Coburn for the rest of the 2024/25 season is great for Middlesbrough.
The striker is the third-choice centre-forward since the arrival of Tommy Conway and will not get too many minutes at Boro.
This is especially true after the Teessiders’ early exit from the League Cup on Tuesday evening.
But as Coburn is still only 21, a loan move in the current campaign with give Carrick and co. another year to assess his development before making a permanent decision on his future.
