Middlesbrough Head of Recruitment Chris Jones had a very busy summer transfer window with the Teessiders.

After finishing four points outside the top six in 2023/24, it was imperative Middlesbrough had a good 2024 summer transfer window.

Boro’s early-season form has not been great but the additions made across the last couple of months should give Michael Carrick and co. a real shot at winning promotion this season.

Luke Ayling returned to the club on a free transfer after his excellent loan stint from Leeds United.

The North East outfit then completed permanent deals for Delanor Burgzorg and Aidan Morris before Harley Hunt joined the club’s academy.

More recently, Micah Hamilton, Tommy Conway and Neto Borges arrived at the Riverside ahead of deadline day.

Then, though they left it very late, Middlesbrough completed two late transfers on the night of August 30th.

Chris Jones issues Ben Doak verdict after Liverpool transfer

Just as the clock ticked past 11pm, Middlesbrough confirmed a loan move for George Edmundson from Premier League outfit Ipswich Town.

An hour prior, meanwhile, the Reds secured another loan move, also from the top flight.

Ben Doak has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool.

After Boro confirmed the announcement on X/Twitter, the club’s Head of Recruitment Chris Jones quote tweeted the post with his exciting three-word verdict.

He wrote: “Potential game changer…”

Why have Middlesbrough signed Ben Doak

There is much excitement after Middlesbrough completed a late swoop for the player out of the blue.

Jurgen Klopp has previously praised Doak and fans should be very pleased with what the German had to say on the 18-year-old.

His signing, though, is slightly surprising and does go against the policy of Boro’s Head of Football, Kieran Scott.

Scott made it clear earlier this year that Middlesbrough will only loan players if they have a real chance of securing their services on a permanent basis.

However, while it could happen, it seems very unlikely Doak will move to the Riverside on a full-time basis.

Boro have plenty of options at right-wing as well, making the signing of the Scotsman even more intriguing.
