Middlesbrough fans have been waiting a while for the club to make a signing today.

Boro headed into Friday looking to sign a new centre-back to provide cover amid the injury crisis Michael Carrick is suffering at the back.

Middlesbrough are trying to secure a late deal for George Edmundson, which will solve that issue.

But somewhat surprisingly, the Teessiders have now added another attacker to their ranks this summer.

Delano Burgzorg, Micah Hamilton and Tommy Conway have moved to the Riverside Stadium in the last few months, giving Carrick plenty of options in his already stacked forward line.

However, it emerged earlier today that Ben Doak was on his way to Middlesbrough for a medical after Liverpool and the player decided he should move to Boro over their Championship rivals, Hull City.

Middlesbrough confirm signing of Liverpool winger Ben Doak

It took some time but Middlesbrough eventually confirmed their move for Doak at exactly 10pm on deadline day.

Taking to X/Twitter, the official Boro page wrote: “Slow news day. Anyway, time for BEN AT 10,” accompanied by a video of Doak and Big Ben.

Doak has completed a season-long loan switch to the club. There is no mention of an option to buy in the deal.

Jurgen Klopp comments on Ben Doak should excite Middlesbrough fans

Doak joined Liverpool from Celtic’s youth ranks in 2022 when Jurgen Klopp was still at Anfield.

Less than 12 months after the teenager’s arrival in England, the German manager was already waxing lyric about Doak and what he offers, as per the Celtic Star.

He said: “He’s with us in training again, special boy. Really confident, has something nobody else delivers.

“This kind of dribbling, this kind of straightforward bravery, all these kind of things. Technically really good, high speed, super-promising.”

Doak has limited senior experience, playing just 10 times for Liverpool, but Klopp’s comments on the player suggest Boro should be really excited about their latest signing.

Middlesbrough face Cardiff City in a 12:30pm kick-off on Saturday, but that game is likely to come too soon for the winger.
