Middlesbrough completed a late swoop for Liverpool winger Ben Doak on Friday.
Heading into deadline day, Boro were only expected to sign a new centre-back to offer more cover for their injured stars.
However, in somewhat of a surprising move, the Teessiders ended up signing a new winger for the remainder of 2024/25.
Reports emerged that Middlesbrough were interested in signing Ben Doak from Liverpool on Friday afternoon.
The deal was a loan move and Boro were competing with Championship rivals Hull City for the winger’s signature.
The Reds left it late to get a transfer done but eventually confirmed the addition of the 18-year-old at 10pm on Friday.
Jurgen Klopp has already praised Doak from his time at Anfield, giving Boro fans a good idea of what they can expect from their eighth signing of the 2024 summer transfer window.

Stefan Bajcetic and more Liverpool players react to Ben Doak Middlesbrough transfer
Following his move, Doak took to Instagram to pen a brief message to his new club late on August 30th.
He wrote: “Delighted to be here. Lets get to work”
The teenager has of course joined from Liverpool and has since received a number of messages from his Red teammates, several of which commented on his Instagram post.
Owen Beck said: “Good luck fella,” Conor Bradley added: “All the best pal,” while Stefan Bajcetic said “Good luck lad,” and Rhys Williams simply posted three love-heart eyes emojis.
There was also a welcome message from his international, and now Boro, teammate Tommy Conway who wrote: “Let’s gooooo! Welcome brother.”

What will Ben Doak bring to Middlesbrough
Doak is joining an already-stacked Middlesbrough attack and may have a hard time competing for regular minutes.
Isaiah Jones is currently Boro’s number one right-wing option, while Micah Hamilton arrived from Manchester City earlier this month to compete out wide.
However, if Klopp’s previous comments are anything to go by, Doak will offer Middlesbrough a lot and should be able to impress Michael Carrick enough to start regularly.
Klopp said in 2023: “He’s with us in training again, special boy. Really confident, has something nobody else delivers.
“This kind of dribbling, this kind of straightforward bravery, all these kind of things. Technically really good, high speed, super-promising.”
