Middlesbrough had an excellent 2024 summer transfer window but missed out on some big names.
The transfer window slammed shut at 11pm on Friday evening and Michael Carrick will be pleased with the names he managed to sign.
Middlesbrough signed Ben Doak from Liverpool in a surprise late swoop, adding even more firepower to the club’s attack.
The Teessiders were not done there on deadline day, however, with a new centre-back arriving right after the window closed.
George Edmundson completed a six-month loan move to Middlesbrough from Ipswich Town, becoming their ninth and finally signing of the transfer window.
All told, it was a productive window for the North East outfit with every area of their squad having been strengthened.
But Middlesbrough still missed out on same big names and Boro News have now picked out the top five.

Ryan Giles
Starting with the most obvious name, Middlesbrough were linked with Ryan Giles for much of the summer.
However, when it became clear that Hull City did not want to sell Giles, Boro moved to sign Neto Borges instead.
Giles was one of the club’s best players during his loan spell at the Riverside in 2022/23, providing 11 assists in 45 Championship matches, and the defender not re-signing this summer is a big blow.
Tom Cannon
Despite the arrival of Tommy Conway, Carrick still appeared to want another striker through the door in August.
It was reported in the final week of the transfer window that Middlesbrough were interested in Tom Cannon, who was allowed to leave Leicester City after the arrival of Jordan Ayew.
However, when it became clear the player only wanted to move on loan, Boro dropped out of the race and the forward has instead joined Stoke City.

Will Lankshear
Before Conway’s £4.5m capture from Bristol City, Middlesbrough were linked with Will Lankshear.
The centre-forward was excellent for Tottenham Hotspur’s U21 side last season and had garnered interest from the likes of Sunderland and Wrexham over the summer.
However, said duo and Carrick all missed out on the player as Tottenham decided they wanted to keep him in north London for 2024/25.

Yusuf Sertkaya
Back in July, Middlesbrough were linked with Yusuf Sertkaya. Reports from Turkey at the time claimed the North East outfit had made a transfer offer for the player.
Sertkaya spent the summer representing Turkey at the U19 European Championships. Turkey made it to the last-16 before they were knocked out by Norway.
In the end, however, despite being a promising prospect, no move for the 18-year-old came to pass.
Topi Keskinen
The final player Boro missed out on during the 2024 summer transfer window was Topi Keskinen.
Middlesbrough and Sunderland were both interested in Keskinen, but the winger instead moved to Scottish outfit Aberdeen.
Boro signed Delano Burgzorg, Micah Hamilton and Doak to strengthen their flanks for 2024/25, though, so missing out on the Finn is not really a problem for Middlesbrough.
